Adult Vision Programs
To serve Wisconsin adults, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin has a multifaceted adult program that combines vision screening and public health education components.
Free Adult Vision Screenings are conducted thanks to many of our statewide partners! Prevent Blindness Wisconsin is represented at VA Stand Downs in Milwaukee and Racine to provide vision screenings for veterans throughout the year. Additionally, our partnership with the Ebenezer Church of God in Christ Resource Pantry allows vision screening to be accessible to Milwaukee’s inner city population. Furthermore, the 27-D1 Lions Club provides free vision screenings to adults in their region. Without these crucial partners, this sight-saving work would not happen and many individuals would not be referred to the care they may need.
Our partnership with Ascension-Columbia St. Mary’s Urban Church Wellness program allows us to provide educational information to Health Liaisons across Milwaukee about Diabetic Eye Disease and Glaucoma. One Health Liaison had this to say: “I would just like to thank you for your Diabetic Eye Disease presentation for the Urban Church Wellness Health Liaison gathering. After attending your presentation, I presented your information to the member of my church, Kingdom of Heaven Christian Ministries. All but one member of our congregation scheduled appointments with their eye doctor for a dilated eye exam. Thank you again for your much needed presentation!” Individuals that attend urban churches are often at a higher risk for vision problems; this program allows us to reach out to individuals that may not otherwise seek eye care.
To ensure that public health workers throughout the state are able to speak about the importance of eye care and the different aging eye conditions, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin hosts a Healthy Eyes educational program. This programs teaches participants about age-related macular denegation, cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. These participants are then equipped with a guidebook and tools to provide this education in their own communities to those they serve!
Adult Vision Health Resources

Smoking is very damaging to our vision health. Those who smoke are 4-6 times more likely to develop cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.
